Post-Wedding Post

So I was going through and removing wedding communities from my friends list...because, hey, I'm married and have been for a while.

And realized I had never shared pictures here.  Since I loved the wedding photos when I was planning, I thought I'd pop over here one last time to say HI and give you a link to a slide show of our wedding album.

Not sure what info you'd like...

But:  Wedding cost (including 2 week all-inclusive honeymoon, rings, and hotel rooms for wedding party the week of the wedding, morning-after-brunch with guests and other random extras...76k.  Which sounds like a modem speed, not a monitary value...but!  I thought, given the nature of the community, you'd want to know that! :)

Best of luck with your own wedding planning!  Our wedding was great...but the marriage is so much better. ;)

Intro! :)

I never thought I'd be here, but as we go along, well... there you go. ;)

Name: Stephanie. Fiance's name is Matt.
Wedding Date: 31 October 2010. Halloween, whut!
Role in the wedding: I'm the bride. ;)
Age: 25. FH is 26.
City/State/Country you live in: Odenton, MD. We moved here just before the new year.
City/State/Country you're getting married in (if different): Woodfield Country Club, Boca Raton, FL.
Approximate budget (if you feel like sharing): Currently, with honeymoon and not counting eRing, somewhere around $25k.
Number of guests: 135, maybe a handful more? This is by far the part that got the most out of control!
Anything else you'd like to tell us?: Well, we started off with a budget of $15k. We were doing great with that -- I bought a dress way on sale, I'm DIYing a lot of stuff, and we got a rockin' deal from our venue -- but then... I don't know what happened. I added it all up the other day, and we project that we'll end up going $10k over that budget. Honeymoon included, to Jamaica, w00t. :) I think the biggest thing was the sheer number of guests; while we anticipate a big showing of those we're inviting, we didn't anticipate starting off with that many! Our families are huge, though, so it should have been that much of a surprise...

I think we knew all along that we were going to go over $15k. We just didn't realize how much. ;) It's not a huge issue, as we can afford it, but wow, we kinda spazzed when we saw that!

Anyway, so hi! I see the comm isn't terribly active, and I'll probably do a lot of my main posts over at weddingplans, but I figured that we're officially an over $20k couple, so I might as well join! :) And feel free to friend me, if you'd like!

Quick FYI...

Hey, ladies!

Just a quick FYI for the Americans getting married in 2009 in the crowd.

My FH and I recently filed our taxes and were advised by the CPA that sales tax will again be deductible on your 2009 federal tax returns. If you're likely to be spending 20k+ like we are, the wedding alone might make it worthwhile to itemise your deductions for 2009! So save those receipts!

2010 U.S. brides, you'll want to see if they continue allowing this deduction for 2010, but it's something to keep in mind.

So I was married on 9 Jan at Caversham House in Perth Western Australia and I have to say the day was amazing, the weather went a little haywire and instead of a 25-29C day we ended up with a 35C day. I was happy with 95% of vendors will go into more detail below.

Dresses and miscellaneous

Ok...so I'm going to start this post by saying I am sooooo sorry. I know that this has been posted before and I recall someone mentioning to a comment I made earlier in the year about wedding dresses and where I could go to buy them in Boston, MA, however, for the life of me I can't recall the locations!

I would really, really appreciate if any of you live in Boston, or know of any good bridal shops here to give me ideas on where I can go to shop for my wedding dress. Thanks in advance and again I am so sorry as I am sure this has been posted many times, yet I was unable to find anything specifying Boston, MA in the tags :-/

My wedding is less than a year a way...I am so freaked out. :-(

So far we have the following:

  • Ceremony and reception will be at the Crane Estate in Ipswich, MA
  • Catering will be managed by Tables of Content, the menu has already been chosen.
  • Photography is being done by Demetri Productions
  • Stationary is being done by Beau Papier, this includes invitations and thank you notes. I am still debating on the calligraphy, I just can't determine whether or not it is worth the cost just yet. She sent me my sample and I LOVE my invitations!
  • Music for the Ceremony and cocktail hour will be handled by Gilded Harps, Harp and Violin.
  • Music for the Reception will be handled by Mr Jonathan's DJs
  • Flowers and decoration will be handled by Tammy Becker, she is amazing, when we met with her we decided on everything including designs of bouquets and centerpieces. She was so easy to work with.
  • The cake will be handled by Icing on the Cake in Newton, MA. We've already picked out the flavors and decided on the design
  • Wedding Favors have been selected. I am going to have gold leaf ornaments.
  • Jewelry my mom bought it for me already.
  • Honeymoon, 3 weeks in Europe, 1 week in Munich, 1 week in Santorini, and 1 week in Tuscany. We will most likely by the Eurorail passes.

We still need to do the following:
  • Book a JP
  • Purchasing Wedding gown
  • Tuxedo rental (I know the colors though)
  • Transportation...not sure if we are going to do limos or anything. If we do, we will most likely get a white Rolls Royce.

And of course there are many little things that still need to be done, but not until closer to the wedding date.

Lighting

I'm posting this question in here because I have a feeling there are a lot of brides over in weddingplans that might just think I'm wasting money.

Anyways my question is about lighting.  For you brides that are already married and had lighting was it worth it?  And is anyone in here planning on hiring a lighting service?  I dont want to go crazy, but I do love the look of specialty lighting in my venue.  Heres a link for reference

http://www.topsfieldcommons.com/light.htm

I got an email quote from the company that it takes 10 lights to light the ballroom (not incl the balcony or stage thats extra) and to do that with a technician incl would cost 995.  The technician is there to make sure everything is in working order, and will change the lighting to your specifications at different times of the night.  I would do a warm pink for dinner and maybe a darker intense pink for dancing.  I think I would also like to light the stage depending on the extra cost.  He said it takes 4 fixtures to light the stage in addition to the 10 for the ballroom.  So I'm thinking maybe 1500 dollars for everything.

Worth it?  complete waste of money?  My dad is paying for the majority of the wedding, so this is an expense FH and I would handle ourselves.  he thinks its silly to spend over a grand on lighting, but I just love the look and feel it gives.

Opinions ladies?  Bonus if you have pics/stories about lighting at your own wedding or one you have attended.

THANKS TONS!
